New Changes For Old Town Newhall

The possibilities of new housing and art house theater coming to Newhall are getting closer to reality.

six screen “arthouse” theater in Old Town Newhall.

This is a big deal, considering the fact that the two Megaplexes in Santa Clarita (One at Westfield Valencia Town Center, the other located on Soledad in Canyon Country) mostly show blockbuster films. Otherwise, true arthouse cinema fans must go to either the San Fernando Valley or Los Angeles to see quality, smaller budget or independent films…or wait until they hit the streaming channels. The proposed theater will be located at the corner of Main Street and Lyons Avenue, across from the Old Town Newhall Library.

The fact that Old Town Newhall has been chosen for this possible location lends to it’s unique “kitsch” that sets it apart from the rest of the master planned communities that surround this neighborhood that dates back to the 19th century.

Revived and Revitalized

In light of this news, and should it move through to completion, the new Laemmle Theater will join two other live theaters on Main Street, making Newhall a true “art district” in Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita’s only local radio station, AM 1220 KHTS moved into the building once occupied by Newhall Hardware back in June, and a new barbecue restaurant is already in the works near 6th Street, adding to a diverse collection of eateries in the area.

New Housing For Old Town Newhall

The Santa Clarita City Council also voted to allow the City to negotiate with a partner developer to potentially add 46 new 1, 2, and 3 bedroom condos or apartments on 37,500 square feet of the city block. Residents will not only be close to restaurants, theaters, and the City’s Thursday’s at Newhall events, they will also be only minutes from either Highway 14 and Interstate 5, and within walking distance of the Old Town Newhall Metrolink station.

Continued Growth

The revitalization of Old Town Newhall will give residents of Santa Clarita another great destination choice to live, work, and play. We’ll be excited to see the new developments that come its way!
